Today is Stumpmas! The most wonderous of holidays in the Church of PStump. It celebrates Michelle being approved for her kidney transplant (and her sister having a matching organ she was willing to donate! YAY SIBLINGS!) which, while it wasn’t some miracle cure, has meant SHE’S ALIVE (and she don’t need a witness, ooh I hurt myself with that reference) and is basically a huge victory in the whole staying that way (necessary for many reasons but mainly because I have a box of presents for her at this point and I’m really just going to have to get them to her and Leah like Santa Clause or Easter Gabe style at this point)

It’s a big day. A day to remember all the important people in your lives and the daily miracles that mean they get to stay that way. A day to remember your person, the one who gets you and loves you in spite of that. A day to forget about whatever other bullshit is going on for even five minutes and just remember that there are people (even if they’re only people you get to hang out with on the internet) who love and care about you and that as shitty as everything gets those people will be your support system. To remember how important you are to other people and vice versa.

It’s also a day to reflect on organ donation.

Michelle had a match in her baby sister who was willing to donate a kidney for her, but each day nineteen people in the US alone die because of donor shortages. Typically, organ donations come from the recently deceased (obviously in Michelle’s case that wasn’t what happened, and there are steps for donating while alive as well if that’s your desire) who still have viable organs. It’s a simple process, free, and literally costs nothing as you no longer have a need for the organs when they’re taken and used to save lives in all kinds of way and situations. Making the decision to sign up for organ donation is signing up for one day giving someone the greatest gift they’ll ever receive and it literally costs you nothing. You’re not just saving or bettering the life of every single person who desperately needs healthy organs, but also the lives of every person who has ever cared for them. It’s probably the easiest way to change people’s entire universes and if you are old enough to sign up please really consider adding your name to the list of potential donors.

Not actually a part of the Church but practicing Church philosophies!
